5 Alternatives to Milk In Homemade Mac & Cheese

Non-Dairy Milk

A lot more simple substitution than you’d think, but replacing dairy milk with non-dairy milk is the absolute easiest and stress-free method for a homemade macaroni and cheese recipe. There are endless alternatives to dairy milk, some more common non-dairy alternatives being–almond, oat, and soy milk.

Cream Cheese

Use that vegan cream cheese that’s been sitting in wait in the back of your refrigerator. Put it to good use for a creamy, gooey Homemade Mac & Cheese Without Milk. In fact, the recipe I’ve provided in this article uses this very ingredient to get the creamiest and most flavorful macaroni and cheese to replace milk.

Water

I know this isn’t a very “flavorful” option compared to the previous two, but think about it this way–liquid for a liquid. By simply adding in water to replace the necessary liquid to fully combine the macaroni and cheese ingredients, you can still enjoy the cheesy gooeyness in your recipe by making sure you have the necessary amount of cheese added to your macaroni.

Plain Yogurt

You wouldn’t put too much of this ingredient in the recipe, but this is another substitution for milk in a macaroni and cheese recipe. It’s important to make sure it’s vegan/non-dairy. Use about ½ cup of plain yogurt along with shredded cheese to combine with your macaroni pasta to get the full flavor and yumminess out of your recipe.

Another thick substitution for milk in a macaroni and cheese recipe, make sure to grab vegan sour cream for your recipe. Use anywhere from a few tablespoons to ½ cup mixed along with shredded cheese, to get the full thick, creamy goodness out of your macaroni and cheese.
