How To Sweeten Almond Milk At Home

Best Vegan Tips
A majority of the ingredients and equipment listed are optional. It mainly depends on the individual’s taste and what they prefer to obtain their sweetness from. This can be agave syrup, honey (if you’re a honey vegan), maple syrup, stevia (if you want fewer calories), organic sugar (coconut, white, or cane sugar if you enjoy more processed sugars). It’s important to note that I listed “Organic Sugar” to prevent any mistakes in buying brands that use bone char to process sugar. Not all brands use this method, which is why researching can be essential. A majority of “organic” brands are safe to use as they do not use the method of processing sugar with bone char.

Instructions

  • We’ve provided step-by-step instructions on how to sweeten your almond milk at home. No need to stress about where to start and what to do next. Follow these easy-to-follow instructions and make your first batch of home-sweetened almond milk.
  • Now, this is up to the individual’s preference. I have listed optional ingredients, like the sweeteners, for the individual to choose from. It is not necessary to combine all of these sweeteners (unless you enjoy mixing sweeteners, then that is up to you).
  • Next, pick your sweetener. It is not necessary to add the sweetener to a whole carton of almond milk. It is more preferable to sweeten the almond milk based on a single, or so, serving size.
  • You can always switch up the sweetener with each new serving to get a taste for different combinations.
  • I’ve listed “almond extract” and “vanilla extract” under the ingredients list. This is an optional step for any that would like to add an extra hint of “vanilla” or “almond” in their almond milk.
  • If this step is used, make sure to combine it with a sweetener. Extracts are not sweet. Adding, let’s say, vanilla extract together with agave syrup into the cup of almond milk will create that necessary addition of sweetness and flavor to improve your almond milk.
  • Pour the almond milk either into a measuring cup or a mason jar. Start with a single cup of almond milk to get a feel for measuring out the sweeteners (and extract, if used).
  • Measure out 1 teaspoon of your sweetener of choice. Pour into the cup of almond milk. If using one of the extracts, measure out ¼ teaspoon (or 1 teaspoon if you prefer a stronger taste). Combine into almond milk along with the sweetener of choice.
  • Using a spoon or hand mixer, mix ingredients together until thoroughly combined.
  • Now that the sweetener, extract (if used), and almond milk have been combined, you can enjoy your homemade, sweetened almond milk!

Notes

Do you like chai? Try this combination together! Combine ½ teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 tablespoon of sweetener of choice, ⅛ teaspoon cloves, and ¼ teaspoon nutmeg with 4 cups of unsweetened almond milk. Stir to combine thoroughly. The longer the spices sit in the almond milk the stronger the taste becomes. You now have Chai Almond Milk!
